26 weeks!

I am winding down my second trimester, weeks 26 and 27, once they're over, then I will be in my 3rd trimester... the home stretch!

Baby Kathryn has been moving around a lot and keeping smiles on mommy and daddy's faces! My normal clothes are starting to not quite fit, a lot of things I have given up on and faced the facts that I must wear maternity clothes, which is fine, they make me look way more pregnant anyway :) Here is our Christmas Update: (She was 97 days away from due date on Christmas day - and look at my tummy!)

We had a pretty eventful Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I woke up around midnight on Christmas Eve (after going to be around 11pm) very sick. I was throwing up and had terrible diarrhea (I know you didn't ask, but I am telling.) This happened in about 45 minute increments and simultaneously.  So about 4:30 we called the labor and delivery triage to get some advice on what to do. They said to take sips of water to stay hydrated and to call my Dr. when they open. Well, we had an appt. scheduled for 8am anyway, so we said okay we'll do that. Well, after my 2nd go around after that and not even keeping water down, and nothing left to throw up or anything, I could feel myself getting severely dehydrated, very weak and shaky, so I told Kelley we needed to go because I wasn't feeling like this was going away and I was concerned for Kathryn. We arrived at the hospital (I had pulled over to throw up and had an accident in my pants right before we got there - (glamorous, I know...) so as soon as I got there, I went to the bathroom to clean up and the nurses were waiting on me to finish that up and Kelley was taking care of the paperwork part. As soon as I got there they wanted me to go up to Labor and Delivery Triage, to check on Kathryn to make sure she was okay. She was of course, moving around and the heartbeat was strong. She was doing much better than mommy was. While I was in triage, my Dr. was actually on the floor and she went ahead and admitted me. They moved me from triage to my room where they immediately put me on fluids and I spent my Christmas Eve right there. Kelley was with me most of the day, as well as my parents. I ended up spending the night and by the time my dinner came, which consisted of soup, jello, pudding, ice cream, cranberry juice, and tea, I was feeling better, but still couldn't quite eat all that. It had been awhile since I had thrown up, since they gave me something for that around noon, but the other still hadn't subsided yet. As it was getting closer to midnight on Christmas Eve, I was really starting to feel better and my stomach started growling even, so I had the nurse bring me some applesauce and some fruit loops. After I ate all the applesauce and 1/2 the fruit loops, I became very tired and fell in and out of sleep. They keep coming in and doing stuff, so it was a very sleepless night; (but I was doing much better and not going to the bathroom nearly as much). They wanted to monitor the baby every 4 hrs and to monitor if I was contracting or not, which I never did - just stomach pains from throwing up so much. Around 6:30am, the door opened and it was my doctor! She said if I could eat something before I go and keep it down and not have to go to the bathroom, she would discharge me. Buddy, I ate that applesauce in record time and was ready to go! I did NOT want to spend Christmas in the hospital. Around 7:30, the nurse came in to take out my IV and I signed all my discharge paper work and I was out the door - didn't even need a wheelchair to leave, I was just ready to go! We got home a little after 8 and my family (and Kelley's) had arranged to come over (in shifts) to have Christmas with us, so we didn't have to go anywhere or feel left out on Christmas. Dad and Josh came over and Kelley and Dad cooked and I attempted to eat and I did eat a little, but I probably shouldn't have, my stomach went from empty to full in about 5 minutes and felt like it stayed that way for the rest of the day. Then Kelley's family came over and we opened gifts, then they left and Mom and Allan came by. All in all it was a nice Christmas and granted we didn't have to go anywhere, but I certainly can't complain because I was home and not in the hospital! Unfortunately, Kelley, my mom and Josh, also go sick after I did, I guess I was a little too giving this Christmas and shared my funk with them. Kathryn also received a lot of gifts from grandparents and family members and we are super excited to get things organized for her arrival (which is less than 100 days away now!)

So that was longer than I had wanted to write, but now that it's on there, I'm not taking it off, so sorry this post is so long, but it is what it is. :)

A little update about Miss Kathryn and what has been going on in my body since my last post.

Since my last post was about 6 weeks ago, I will bring you up to speed:

She may now be able to hear both me and Kelley's our voices as we talk to each other. She's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of her lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when she's born and takes that first gulp of air. And she's continuing to put on baby fat. She now weighs about a pound and 2/3 and measures about 14 inches ( about the size of an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel. I have also included what it would like like in the womb.  (Information taken from babycenter.com)
